Playing a troop heavy army Empty Playing a troop heavy army

Ok, so playing a small bug army is not the best build for Tyranids right now for a few reasons:

1. The fearless rules in close combat.
2. IG Infantry heavy lines.
3. Lack of strength.

Let's tackle these misconceptions right off the bat.

1. The fearless rule in close combat.

Ok so being fearless in close combat with week troops is very hard, but there is a way to make it work to your advantage. On a turn where you are going to charge with your small bugs there is different ways to handle this.
1. Against the odds. When your going to charge marines or something similar remember to leave your synapse out of the range of the assault. This allows the small bugs to do as much damage as possible without loosing extra casualties to the fearless rule. Just make sure you buy gaunt extra initiative so you stand a better chance to escape if in close combat. Remember you always fall back to the closest synapse creature, not board edge. Also if you do not loose the combat you do not have to be in synapse range to continue to fight.

2. IG gun lines.

Yes this can be ruff for the standard gaunts as with order they can shoot much more. Make sure when facing IG gun lines you have to use the guants without number. Doing this with small units of gaunts will allow you to keep them shooting at constant wave after wave of gaunts while you can use out flanking unit of genestealers to do some serious damage. Also use spine fists against guard so the twin linked ability helps you return fire.

3. Lack of strength.
Out number- Remember that gaunts can run in units of 32 and this is very critical to use when trying to run the units. A squad of 32 hormagaunts with upped initiative, weapon skill and strength have a great opportunity to do a great deal of damage. Against standard troops the hit in a 3+, wound on 4+ and go first the majority of the time. This fills in the gaps lacking form there basic stat line.

Small Bugs are the backbone of any tyranid horde army just use them wisely to get the best results.
