GW Paint
Does anyone know what kind of paint the GW paint is? Acrylic, oil based, enamel, etc? I'm wondering, because if I can find cheaper paint of the same kind and more variety I'll be trying to pick those up. Thanks.
Re: GW Paint
GW uses Acrylic paint like most companies now.
The old glossy Model Car paint is Enamel paint
the only problem with cheaper paint is the quality. You will want to make sure it is designed for use models.
Generic acrylic paint is designed for kids use on paper and designed to be cheap not quality. It will probably not coat well when thinned. Or have clumps of color pigment & hide detail. This is true of Most "school" or "Craft" acrylic
Painter's Acrylic will have more pigment but is designed to be used in large quantities on a canvas. It will be thick & hide detail as is & take a lot of trial & error to get it thinned right.
But there are a number of companies that sell paint designed for models!
Other than GW there is P3 (from Privateer Press), Vallejo & Coat D'Arms (an old GW paint supplier) to name a few.

Re: GW Paint
I use Vallejo almost exclusively only because back like ten years ago when I was looking for paints myself someone at "can't keep a name or location for the store" recommended then over GW for just as good quality for a few bucks less. I find that Walt's hobby has the whole paint line up in the store and Mike at comix zone can order any of them as well. There is also a lot of GW's colors that have been made by Vallejo, as well as a lot of other shades of colors used for military models for like WWII miniatures.

Very informative. I'll havev to check out Walt's. Again. But thank you again. I heard of some other company too...Viper, or Something that begins with a V....someone at the same store that can't decide what their name is said they were good, but I can't remember the name for the life of me...

If you go to Walt's, ask for Mike. Tell him Chuck sent you. He's really good at advising about paint.
